i am ashamed to say that the only joan didion i have read is the first several pages of "the white album," but boy, what pages those are! the first passage in particular is enough to make one a believer.
let me know what you make of your reading, because i am anxious to hear your thoughts. reading is so, so great, no?
My students read excerpts from both, and they were not down with Joan Didion! I used the essay about Joan Baez's school for nonviolence as an introduction. No one cares for subtlety anymore, it seems. They found Joan bland.
