The Wedding
In 1998, Carl joined the City of David. He gave up meat, sex, tobacco, alcohol, private property, the color black, and funerals, among other things. Earlier this year, Carl went back into the world and married Rhonda. The wedding took place in Carl and Rhonda's backyard, with about 15 attendees. Carl's mother lives in the basement and his father lives next door. His family built almost all of the houses on Rosalin Road. When I first interviewed Carl in 1999, he only regretted one thing when he thought of his new life at the City of David: he missed his father terribly and felt guilty leaving Rosalin Road. I had the chance to meet Carl's father; we blew bubbles at the newlyweds.
